ABOUT ROD ACTION

Action describes how much of the rod deflects (bends) when you put pressure on the tip. Unfortunately there is no standard to measure action on a rod so it is difficult to compare this feature between rod manufacturers. We assign an action to each of our rods based on our experience. You will find a diagram in the detailed page of each rod that illustrate the action compared to other rods within the series.

A Light action rod is very sensitive and will do most of the bending towards its tip. Light action rods are usually teamed with spinner type reels and are used for casting live bait and light bottom fishing.
A Medium action rod will have less sensitivity but will offer increased power and strength. These rods are the workhorse of the weekend fisherman.
A Medium-Heavy action offers increased power for more demanding fishing environments. Great rods for fighting bluefins and blackfins, monster amberjacks and sharks.

A Heavy  angling.action rod is built for maximum lifting power and usually exhibits very little deflection under pressure. These rods are best used for heavier fishing applications such as deep dropping or fighting sea monsters.

Please choose the right rod for your type of fishing. Pay attention to the line rating of the rod and do not exceed its recommended rating.  Do not use the rod in a situation that is beyond its capability as it may damage the rod or cause injury.

If you need help selecting a rod, call us toll-free or email us. If we know what kind of fishing you are most likely to engage in, we can recommend the right product.
